1972 Alfa Romeo GT Junior 1.3

Delivered 1st May 1972, this is an original UK car in righthand drive with what we understand to be its originally designated registration number, ‘DRS 38K’.  It is offered in its original colours of Biancospino White with Alfatex black vinyl interior, and branded vinyl floor mats.

There’s almost certainly been some light repair and paintwork to a car of this age, but if this is true then it’s all in keeping with the age and patina of the car.  You’d be more than forgiven for thinking that large areas of the paint are still original, clues such as the remnants of factory-applied wax in the door jams and bonnet underside evidence that this is an honest car that’s not been pulled apart and mistreated.  We’ll not claim the paint is perfect because it isn’t;  there are a few scabs and areas where the paint is lifting slightly, but none to the extent that one couldn’t be proud to own the car, or that have broken the paint entirely.

This car has had just two former keepers in Aberdeen and Crieff respectively.  We understand that it was removed from the road around 1991 and stored.   It was then discovered by Alfa Romeo specialists, Veloce Sport of Nottinghamshire and supplied by them to its latest owner in December 2015.

The same firm were commissioned by this buyer to prepare the car to his requirements.  This included removing the existing engine and gearbox, and fitting a period-correct Alfa Romeo 2.0 litre engine and gearbox.  New carburettors, replacement brake callipers, new brake hoses, replacement suspension bushes, service engine, laser track & MOT.  Further, the rear axle was cleaned and re-sprayed, the underside waxoyled, new servos, brake master cylinder duel system, clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, four trailing arm bushes, four shock absorbers, and four new GTA wheels & tyres were fitted to complete the look.  Total cost? £2,563.50.

DRS 38K has most recently been treated to a check-over and MOT by trusted agents of Manor Classic Cars in July 2018 which confidently gives this car a clean bill of health.

Importantly, the original 1.3 litre engine and original steel wheels with chrome ‘Alfa Romeo’ trims, plus the original steering wheel, two sets of keys and toolkit are all included in the sale of this car.
