1959 Porsche 356 A Convertible D **SOLD**

Bodied by the West German carrosserie, Drauz, the one-year-only 356 A Convertible D is an incredibly sought-after variant of the popular Porsche 356 model, and according to legend, is considered the rarest production Porsche….

Only 1,331 of these models were manufactured between late 1958 and September ‘59.  Embodying the spirit and the low-sling body of the early Speedsters, the Convertible D remains a very simple design with no frills interior but is no less-captivating for it.  Quite the opposite, in fact.  There’s not an angle on the car which isn’t in some way beautiful, and pure.

Our car, chassis 86018, is offered in its factory original colour of Ivory and was restored in the USA between 2012 – 2016.  The full body and mechanical restoration has plainly been completed to a high standard by named craftsmen who left no stone unturned.  What’s more, they discovered that all the panels were the factory originals, as evidenced by stampings of the number ‘18’ throughout the car when stripped.  The sympathetic restoration retained all this car’s early features.

Since arriving on UK shores she has remained part of an impressive private collection of cars, used only occasionally, but always properly cared for.  A worthwhile and discreet modification is a conversion to a 12-volt battery, but otherwise, the car remains as it would have in 1959, though arguably even better following its restoration.
