We’ve long been a fan of a Bristol, and a 403 in particular is a favourite.  The wonderfully over-engineered nature of the car and a wealth of subtle style cues really set the 403 apart from other cars of this era.  This example, one of just 281 produced, is presented in its originally specified Black coachwork with beautiful burgundy interior trim & still retains its original and coincidentally relevant ‘RHT 403’ registration number.  It is an older restoration, specifically, early 1980’s, which has since mellowed to a very handsome and charming patina.

Chassis #1385 claimed a Silver Award for the Bristol Owners’ Club at the 1996 ‘Classic and Sportscar Show’ & was also the feature car in LJK Setright’s 1998 Palawan Press publication, ‘A Private Car, an Account of The Bristol’.

There are three great tomes of history file accompanying this car detailing a list of owners, mileage records, assorted correspondence, and a substantial quantity of invoices.  A particular servant to this car was Bristol engineer, Spencer Lane-Jones, who is quoted on one such correspondence dated 1991 stating that #1385 ‘is in outstanding restored condition mechanically, structurally and cosmetically having been the subject of a total restoration to a very high standard commencing about 6 years ago. It has had little use since and is now one of the best extant examples of the model.’

It was most recently sold in December of 2016 by Bonhams in London and thereafter joined the ownership of a private individual where it has been enjoyed occasionally and with great care.  Before this time, it resided in fourteen-year private ownership and seven-year ownership before this, meaning the car has always been adopted and correctly maintained which is evident when driven since this car holds exceptional road manners, and performs very pleasingly.  A fine package.
