Some Assembly Required, Batteries Not Included.
We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to buy this MG TC from local ownership since 1962! In that time, the proud gentleman owner had stripped and rebuilt it twice before, but this time, intended to rebuild his beloved TC with a Shorrock supercharger. ….Alas, someone else must finish what he began.
We think you might describe this as a blank canvas starting point. Mercifully, this is a Matching Numbers chassis and engine TC from late production in 1949. Yes, the chassis assembly is well on its way to completion, and the engine & gearbox are currently mounted to the chassis but their condition and life is unknown (apart from turning freely on the starting handle which the engine does). The period upgrade Shorrock Supercharger is bolted to the engine, but once more, condition unknown.
There is a wealth of reusable parts offered as part of the sale of this car and you shall be welcome to all of it. Over the years, the dedicated former owner has bought, and at times, re-bought parts he seemingly thought bettered what he already had. Perhaps that’s why there’s a choice of seven front wings, two fuel tanks, five powder-coated wire wheels (plus four workshop wire wheels already applied to the car), multiple carburettors, two rear wings, bulkhead section, floorboards, bonnet canopy, and many boxes of related nuts, bolts, cables, instruments, tinware, lights and goodness knows what else.
The original windscreen, original registration plates, original Bluemel’s Brooklands steering wheel, reconditioned instruments and even some very salvageable sections of the wet-weather gear remain with the car. We have a body for the car too, but poor storage outside his workshop, albeit under a cover, means it’s likely not serviceable again except for perhaps taking measurements.
We’ll be happy to pass on period pictures of its happy owner in his 20’s enjoying this MGTC in its original guise, plus handbooks, workshop manual & some electrical drawings.
Not for the fainthearted, but clearly a very worthy project for the person with the requisite skills. We shall be happy to assist the new owner with enclosed delivery at cost if they wish.
